My Tho
Known to many as the gateway to the Mekong delta, this small
city is located roughly 70 km south west of HCMC. Situated on the banks of the Tien branch of the Mekong river the area is
crisscrossed by narrow mud brown waterways and fertile islands covered with lush flora and small rural communities.
Cruise to Thoi Son island where you will have the opportunity
to visit a local house and taste some of the fruits that are grown locally in the orchards. Visitors will also have the opportunity
to visit some of the local cottage industries which produce honey and coconut candy. A chance to sample the region's speciality
of ‘elephant ear' fish should not be missed. Further exploration of the region will uncover Vinh Trang pagoda, the
largest and most remarkable pagoda in the delta, and Phoenix island which is home to a unique 1960s temple complex built by
the "Coconut Monk".
